Santa Ana College Dons men’s basketball team defeated the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners 66-62 on Wednesday.

At the beginning of the game, both teams were shooting behind the arch but were struggling to make the shots.

Midway through the first half, the Dons started to move the ball more which lead to open layups. SAC went to halftime with a 30-19 lead despite shooting 7-23 from behind the three-point line.

Starting the second half, Santa Ana changed its offensive plan and went from shooting threes to distributing the ball around allowing lanes to open and drive the ball to the basket. The Dons were up by as many as 17 points but saw the lead disintegrate when the Roadrunners pushed the tempo.

Rio Hondo managed to cut their deficit to three with just two minutes left in the game but Santa Ana’s defense pulled through and got the stop in the final minute.

“The coach told us in that final timeout that all we needed was just one more stop. We need to stop them one more time,” sophomore guard Ramon Lopez said.

The Dons are on a two-game winning streak and improve their record to 2-2. They will play the West LA Tournament at West LA College on Thursday, Dec. 5.
