The Associated Student Government is taking applications for student leadership positions to fill vacant spots for the current school year. The deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 2 at noon.

Over 30 positions are available in the judicial, legislative and executive branches of the student advocacy organization. No experience is necessary, but a 2.6 GPA and six units of current enrollment are required to be eligible.

Sociology major and incoming ASG President Luis Mejia welcomed the fall 2016 alumni and faculty via Santa Ana College’s Instagram account on the first day of the semester.

“Student government is an advocacy organization to ensure our students academic career is a successful and joyful transition,” Mejia said.

Prior to becoming the ASG President, Mejia’s experience included being the associate justice and activities commissioner of the Senate for Social Sciences.

ASG allows students to develop leadership skills, get involved in student advocacy efforts and participate in decision-making for the entire student body, according to ASG advisor Nicole Virtucio Moya. Interested students should also be available to attend a leadership training and retreat on September 30.

“We are the voice, a microphone for the students. I encourage students to get involved so their needs are being met,” Mejia said.

For more information, call (714) 564-6214. Applications are available at the Office of Student Life in VL-205A.
