The Frida Cinema in Downtown Santa Ana will present a week long short animated film festival, from Oct. 2 to Oct. 8.
The 17th annual Animation Show of Shows festival, curated by producer Ron Diamond, features 11 international award winners and 29 films nominated for Academy Awards, nine of which won.
“I want to show people the films I’ve seen in Europe, China and around the world,” Diamond said.
International films such as Tant de Fortes (France), Snowfall (Ireland), and more from Australia, Russia, Switzerland and Iran will be screened.
Films presented are shown with documentary portraits that show the development and experiences leading to the making of the films by four directors.
“All students should come out to see the program, it’s funny and it’s not only for animators,” Diamond said.
The films feature a variety of techniques including traditional 2D hand drawn, 3D computer graphics and stop motion.
Director Melissa Johnson and Diamond will be at the Frida Theater on Oct. 3.
“We’ll talk to the audience after, then have a question and answer to learn more about the film,” Diamond said.
General admission is $10 and $8 for students, seniors, and children. Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. will be an afternoon screening costing $7. For more information visit, www.animationshowofshows.com.
