Freshmen first baseman Sabrina Perez hit a go-ahead three run shot that tied the school’s home run record Monday, as the Dons defeated visiting Golden West College, 7-4.
“We got the win and it showed that we did not give up,” Perez said.
The Dons were trailing 4-0 after the Rustlers scored four runs in the first inning, as the first six batters reached base safely.
Santa Ana College got on the board in the bottom of the second when freshman Heather Robertson hit a two-run home run.
In the bottom of the third, with two runners on base and the Dons trailing by two, Perez stepped to the plate and launched her eighth homer of the season off Rustlers’ starting pitcher Kiley Eskridge, that places her in a tie with teammate Devon Rodriguez and Shelly Tait. Tait set the record in 2011.
GWC freshman Eskridge (4-10) pitched four innings while allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits. She walked two, struck out two, and gave up two home runs. Ciera Henson pitched two innings while allowing two runs, two earned runs on three hits.
Dons starter Devon Rodriguez stayed calmed after the first and pitched seven innings, giving up four runs, three earned on seven hits, while walking four and striking out one.
With the win the Dons extend their winning streak to five games.
The Dons (21-10 overall, 9-6 in OEC), next play Wednesday at Riverside College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
