Guardians of the Galaxy may be set in a futuristic world millions of years away from the reality we know, but its most brilliant plot point comes from a collection of ‘70s classics. Awesome Mix Vol. 1 has the same songs Pete Quill cherishes in the movie – the only piece the Star-Lord has of his mother.

The Pinada Colada Song, Cherry Bomb and I Want You Back reminds us of the interstellar hero’s humanity, making him just like us.
