Wood Scores Second Hat Trick of the Season

Sophomore forward Leyna Wood scored three goals for the Dons to pick up their first Orange Empire Conference win, defeating Saddleback Gauchos (3-3-2, 0-1-1) 4-2 on Friday, Oct. 4.

Wood scored the first goal in the 66th minute off a pass from Fatima Pimentel to take the lead 1-0.

Four minutes later Wood scored again for the Dons after SAC was given a penalty kick for a Saddleback handball in the box making the score 2-0.

Saddleback midfielder Chloe Deveze, scored a goal in the 74 minute with the assist to forward Abby Hazen, making the score 2-1.

Gauchos forward Paige Vitolo scored off a pass from Hazen again in the 88th minute to tie the game 2-2.

SAC Sophomore forward Ariana Figueroa scored a minute later to give the Dons back the lead 3-2.

In extra time, Dons Goalkeeper Stephanie Hernandez lobbed the ball across the pitch to Wood scoring the third goal in the 90 minute in stoppage time to secure the win for the Dons 4-2. 

The Dons are now (7-1-0, 1-1-0) and host the Fullerton College Hornets Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m.
