The Don’s beach volleyball No.1 team led by Mikelle Taylor and Viridiana Serrano fought hard against the No.2 seated Rio Hondo Roadrunners and the Glendale Vaqueros Friday March 3 at Huntington Beach.

Taylor and Serrano’s first match of the day was played against the Roadrunner’s in best of three sets losing 21-19 in the first set and 21-17 in the second.

“We played the No.2 team in the state Rio Hondo College and we almost had them so that’s frustrating,” Serrano said.

The Don’s No.4 team with Filana Duvan and Dayne Bogosian were the only players to beat a Rio Hondo pair with 22-20 in the first set and 21-15 in the second.

In Taylor and Serrano’s second match the pair played the Vaqueros and won two consecutive sets with 21-4 and 21-18.

“In our second match we felt a lot more in control, talked more, and felt a lot more disciplined,” Taylor said.

Head coach Troy Abbey said that Taylor and Serrano were his best players during the indoor season and that they didn’t play to their full potential. He expects that they will play better during the weeks ahead.

The Don’s next home match is this Friday March 17 at Huntington Beach.
