The Dons closed out non-conference play with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Pasadena City College Lancers on Sept. 18.

“We came out strong”, said Dons Head Coach Jose Vasquez, describing sophomore midfielder Jose Angulo’s goal in the 16th minute off an assist from freshman midfielder Ivan Bastida.

The Lancers responded swiftly in the 27th minute, when sophomore forward Zack Larson tied the game with a header on an assist from freshman midfielder Diego Rodriguez.

The teams went into halftime tied 1-1. Freshman forward Luis Venegas opened the scoring in the second half off an assist from midfielder Jose Angulo in the 67th minute.  He also assisted on a 74th minute goal from freshman defender Omar Perez.

“We always expect to win, that’s what we train for. We will evaluate ourselves over the weekend and come back stronger for our next game.” Vasquez said.

The Dons open conference play at home on Tuesday against the Cypress College Chargers at 3 p.m.
