Traces: Performance preview

A montage of various acrobatic performances of the Traces including Chinese-Hoop, Chair-Stacker, Three-Rings, and Chinese-Ring.

Get ready to kick it into high gear with gravity-defying acrobatics and extreme stunts in this lively circus-style production. The French-Canadian based dance company 7 Fingers performs Traces at Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa, opening next Tuesday night.

Bringing a new brand of circus without exotic animals and extravagant costumes, “Traces displays a fresh and new art form people haven’t seen before,” acrobat Bradley Henderson said.

Where other stylized circus shows focus on a specific person’s talent, Traces incorporates the many specialties of the cast, Henderson added.

Different from the Cirque du Soleil performances, this show has an intimate feel because of the audiences’ ability to see the cast members outside of elaborate masks and costumes as they perform their heart-stopping feats.

To experience the “vicarious thrills that have an extra, blood-pressure raising kick,” says Ben Brantley of the New York Times, you have until March 4.
