Women’s Soccer Brief

WOMEN’s SOCCER.
Game Date: Tuesday, September 20, 2011.

Forward Nicki Munoz chipped a goal past Cypress defender Kayla Neujahr two minutes into a conference match Tuesday afternoon.

The Dons’ quick start turned out to be their last goal. It didn’t matter. The women’s soccer team had already won the game, 1-0.

“We talked about getting an early goal before the game. We knew that they were going to be more defensive, so we wanted to score quick and then defend with our lives,” Kelly said.

Getting ahead early, even by the slimmest of margins, energized SAC’s defenders, helping goalie Stephanie Hernandez earned her first shutout on six saves.

“We were able to keep the ball out of our defensive third. We did everything we could,” Kelly said.

The Dons resume conference play today at home against Riverside College.
