Sophomore Chloe Anderson was awarded the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year this past Friday at the 2015-2016 Student Athlete Awards.
She is the first transgender athlete to be recognized.
Never being a scholar throughout her years in school, Anderson struggled with academics until she told herself that she wanted to succeed.
“You know, I was never a good student growing up. I already struggled with passing high school and it was really hard for me to get into it,” Anderson said. “I think it was a big thing for me to show that I could succeed, and it shows me that I can transfer and continue to get my degree, which is really exciting.”
Now in the process of transferring, she hopes to expand both her athletic and academic skills at a four year university.
“Currently there’s a few schools that are interested in me playing for them, but I am looking at going to Berkeley or UCLA for academics, if I don’t get into those schools for athletics, so I have a lot in my list,” Anderson said.
