UPDATE 9/6: Street Food Company is no longer parking on campus and Buqqa Gourmet has brought in an additional truck. One is located in the place of Street Food Company behind the library in Lot 6. The other is still in the Village Quad. Hours are now 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Original post: Two gourmet food trucks are serving students and staff this week, after the closures of the Don Express and the Johnson Center left the college without on-campus options for a hot meal.

Since Monday, Street Food Company has been stationed in parking lot 6 behind the library and Buqqa Gourmet in the Village Quad. Street Food Company serves breakfast, seafood, tacos and more. Buqqa Gourmet cooks fresh burgers, Mediterranean and vegetarian food.

“Students were asking for hot food on campus and we responded,” said Teresa Mercado-Cota, assistant dean of student services and professional development. “We want students and staff to have convenient options for food.”

Buqqa Gourmet is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Monday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Street Food Company is open 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Mercado-Cota said she isn’t sure how long the food trucks will keep up their daily schedule at SAC.

“We are tracking this pilot effort to ensure this works for everyone,” she said.
