Sophomore forward Leyna Wood scored the winning goal in the second half to secure The Dons win over the College of the Desert Roadrunners 1-0 at home, Friday

During the first half, both teams were struggling to maintain possession of the ball. Leaving the game scoreless at halftime.

As the second half progressed, the Dons picked up the pace on the offensive side with eight shots on goal. The Roadrunner’s defense stood their ground as they held the Dons scoreless in the first 22 minutes.

In the 68th minute of the second half, Santa Ana received a free-kick which was taken by Freshman Defender Mya Rodriguez, who passed the ball to Wood for the only goal of the match and giving SAC the win.

“They’re a good team and they kept getting the attack a lot, we kept under control for the last few minutes, but I think coming out with a 1-0 victory in this game will set us up for games in conference cause there will be much tougher teams,” said Wood

Santa Ana continues to stay undefeated with a 6-0 record heading to Orange Empire Conference play, where they will host Santiago Canyon College on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m.
