Dons’ tight end joins the Volunteers

Tight end Woody Quinn is headed for Division I football in the Southeastern Conference after committing to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Monday.

In his only season at Santa Ana College Quinn played eight games and caught 15 passes for 252 yards with one touchdown.

He transferred to SAC after playing volleyball at Pepperdine University.

The six-foot-six-inch, 245-pound sophomore will enter the spring as one of a handful of options for the Volunteers at tight end.

The Vols are reconstructing the position following the graduation of Mychal Rivera. Rivera had 36 receptions for 562 yards with five touchdowns for Tennessee in 2012.

Prior to last season, Quinn played football at St. Margaret’s High School in San Juan Capistrano in 2010.
