A Santa Ana College student who reported being abducted Oct. 2 changed her story, campus safety officials said.

The female student claimed a Latino forced her into her car on campus and made her drive him to Target to steal a cell phone charger. She later said the incident occurred off campus.

“Further investigating led her to retract her statement,” District Safety and Security Supervisor Lt. James Wooley said.

Fliers warning the community to be on the lookout for the suspect have since been removed.
