The Dons volleyball team lost to the Irvine Valley Lasers on their home court on Sept.25.The game in the first set was back to back until the Lasers took the lead, winning 25-19.

Though they lost the first match the Dons kept their energetic plays. Until the second and third sets where the team slowly wore themselves out trying to keep up.

Freshman  Libero Ally Waldrow kept her team on course with back-breaking digs and words of encouragement.

“ I thought we had a really good intensity throughout the first and second match.”

 Waldrow said.

The second match was eventful but short-lived. A long play ensued on both sides until the ball eventually dropped on the Dons side of the court. Where the score was then settled by the IVC Lasers resulting in a 25-14 win.

In the last set of the night, the slowing pace of the Dons was evident in the match. Nervous energy displayed by the players didn’t benefit them in the long run. Though the teamwork within both teams was strong, the Dons made small mistakes that added up. The Lasers won 25-8.

“I like the competition. It was fun,” Freshman outside Mckenzie Nelson says, “we could have done better.”

The Dons dropped in total to a 2-7 overall record and 1-1 record in the Orange Empire Conference play, they will have an opportunity to redeem their position on Friday, Sept. 27 at Riverside City College.
