SOFTBALL: Dons vs. Cerritos.
GAME DATE: Wednesday, February 7, 2013.
The Dons extended its winning streak to four Thursday, with a victory 5-1 over visiting Cerritos College.
Second baseman Alyssa Yglesias hit a run scoring double, driving in centerfielder Becky Poirier, in the bottom of the fifth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie.
“We kept fighting and never gave up,” third baseman Alexandra Perkins said.
The Dons added three more runs in the in the bottom of the sixth. Perkins hit her first home run of the season to center field. Sabrina Perez reached on an error then was pinch run for by Natalie Valdez who scored on a triple by Marissa Ross. Chantal Oelrich scored on a RBI single by Heather Robertson to end the Dons scoring.
“We played good defense and picked up timely hits,” Co-Head Coach Jessica Rapoza said.
The Dons improved their record to 5-1 while Cerritos falls to 3-4.
Cerritos tied the game at one a piece in the top of the second inning with a solo home run by Ariana Mejia.
Olerich (2-0) got the win for the Dons, pitching three innings in relief without allowing a run.
Lily Cornejo (0-2) got the loss for Cerritos; she allowed all five runs on five hits in five innings.
This game was rescheduled from 1/26.
The Dons next play Tuesday at Palomar at 2 p.m.
