President gets four more years

ELECTION 2012.

With the 2012 election results in, President Barack Obama overcame a stagnant economy, increased debt and high unemployment to win a second term.

Following his victory Obama took the stage at his campaign headquarters in Chicago, Ill., to give his acceptance speech.

Earlier in the evening, Gov. Mitt Romney had given his concession speech at his campaign headquarters in Boston, Mass., emphasizing bi-partisan cooperation in the years to come.

Obama won both the popular vote by more than 2.5 million votes, and the Electoral College by 97 votes.

After hours of the two candidates being neck-and-neck in swing states like Ohio and Florida, Obama pulled through to clinch the presidency.

Voters considered several ballot measures and candidates that directly affect the Rancho Santiago Community College District.

Proposition 30, a measure that raises taxes on citizens making over $250,000 a year to avoid $6 billion in cuts to education, passed with 53.9 percent of the vote across California.

Proposition 32, which would have barred automatic payroll deductions from companies and unions, such as the one professors at Santa Ana College belong to, failed with 43.8 percent of the California vote.

Measure Q, a bond proposition that gives Santa Ana College an additional $198 million for improvements passed with 69.3 percent of the vote in Santa Ana.

Two newcomers were elected to the RSCCD Board of Trustees: Nelida M. Yanez in Area 3 and Claudia Alvarez in Area 5.
