Legendary Fist

By: Rogelio Santana

In the opening scene of The Grandmaster, Ip Man defeats an onslaught of kung fu fighters weaponless, alone, leaving a heap of bodies in his wake.

He is no ordinary fighter—but Bruce Lee’s kung fu master. Set during a time of war and the collapse of China’s last dynasty, The Grandmaster is caught between survival and love for the daughter of the man he defeated.

It is as serene as it is violent and among the director’s best.
