The SAC Dons men’s soccer team was defeated 2-1 by the Fullerton College Hornets on a last minute controversial penalty kick on Tuesday Oct. 8.

Santa Ana saw themselves down 1-0 in the ninth minute when freshman forward Kentrell Dorsey found a loose ball inside the box and scored for Fullerton. The Dons didn’t have an answer on the offensive side and headed into halftime trailing by one.

In the second half the Dons offensive came alive which created more shots on goal. SAC tied the game 1-1 on a penalty kick taken by freshman midfielder Marcelo Aguirre in the 65th minute. Both teams were going on the attack in the final minutes but it was the Hornets that were awarded a penalty kick in stoppage time. Freshman midfielder Ryan Meinardus converted the penalty kick and put Fullerton up 2-1 as the referee blew the final whistle right after the shot.

The Dons are 6-4  and are on a three game losing streak including 0-2 in conference games. They look to get their first conference win and get back on track when they go on the road to play the Cypress College Chargers Friday Oct.11 at 3:00 pm.
