Ash MojicaStudents no longer have to worry about losing two full-time psychologists after Geena Guerrido’s tenure review recommendation was approved by the board of trustees. At the March 24 board meeting, the decision was made to rehire Guerrido for the next year after weeks of back-and-forth conflict.
During public comment at the meeting, Guerrido spoke up about the decision to renew her tenure-track.
“I am so grateful for the outpouring support I received from my fellow faculty, classified staff and students,” said Guerrido. “I will never forget the people who took the time to make comments on my behalf and on the behalf of psychologists at the Health and Wellness center.”
While Gurerrido fought to renew her tenure-track, another psychologist, Rashida Mosley, resigned. During a district meeting on February 24, Santa Ana College students, faculty and staff spoke out against the decision not to rehire the two psychologists.
After thanking the board of trustees and her supporters, Guerrido also urged the college to hire another psychologist to provide mental health services to SAC students.
“My hope moving forward is that faculty voices and concerns will be taken more seriously earlier on so that current and future faculty might never be put in the situation that I was put in,” said Guerrido.
