Santiago Canyon College smashed the Dons 7-0 in the opening match of Orange Empire Conference play.

The Hawks forward Brooke Mays scored three first half goals, including the first goal of the game.

“We’ve been established for a while, the first goal we had a lot of fortune with it and that set us on our way.” SCC’s head coach Ian Woodhead said.

The Dons only mustered one shot in the one-sided game. SCC took 26 shots, 13 that were on goal. Dons goalie Joey Martinez made six saves.

“I think we got in our head,” Dons defender Kaitlynn Oborny said.

The Dons (4-2-1 overall, 0-1 OEC) host Cypress College Tuesday, continuing OEC play.
