Agent Carter shows the struggles women endured post World War II with cliché-busting SSR Agent Peggy Carter. Actress Haley Atwell exudes strength as a British secret agent navigating the male-dominated world of espionage.

Spun off the Captain America franchise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ABC is running Agent Carter as part of their mid-season series to bridge Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Carter shows at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades of Grey, the 2011 erotic romance novel that sold more than 100 million copies, is set to hit theaters Feb.14. The movie follows the manipulative, sex driven relationship of billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele.

Although the movie has not been released it is already breaking record ticket sales and has made January the best month for box offices since Nov. 2013, according to Fandango.

Empire

Empire, Fox’s latest hit drama, mixes King Lear with hip-hop, portraying the music industry as a ruthless battleground. The show is centered on Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), an ex-drug dealer turned rap mogul, and three sons fighting for their father’s place as head of Empire Records.

With its strong music score produced by Timbaland and exciting story, Empire is more than just a cliché rap drama.

All the Bright Places

All The Bright Places follows the lives of two young teenagers as they deal with loss and depression. Intertwined with romance and told from the perspectives of Violet Markey and Theodore Finch, the Jennifer Niven novel is defined by the consequences of mental illness, including bipolar disorder.

The movie rights were sold last year before the release of the book, with actress Elle Fanning cast as the female lead, Niven said.
