Creeping Death

Death Mask

Lord Mantis

By Alex Olivares

Extreme metal act Lord Mantis’ latest release, Death Mask, seeks to breed sludge tempos with a black metal atmosphere and succeeds wildly in doing so.

The drums and guitars pound away at listeners with variations of riffs reminiscent of the spiraling rhythms on Tool’s classic Lateralus. The mood also rivals the classic Norwegian vibe in how dismal it  sounds, making this album accessible to fans of even the most obscure subgenreof metal.
