Search on for student last seen on campus

A 21-year-old was last seen on campus a week ago after his aunt and cousin dropped him off for his evening class.

Richard Barrera, a Santa Ana College student, was last seen at about 7 p.m. on May 7. He was supposed to attend his Criminal Justice 109 class.

Barrera is 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black shirt and a gray hooded sweatshirt.

“He wouldn’t do this, he always calls and checks in — this isn’t like Richard,” said Liz Ruiz, Barrera’s cousin.

Campus security officers have not been notified of the missing persons report, but would not be able to offer much assistance because of privacy laws, said District Safety and Security Supervisor Lt. James Wooley.

Barrera has gone missing before. When he was 16, police caught him spray-painting a wall. He disappeared for about a week afterwards, Ruiz said.

Anyone with information of Barrera’s whereabouts may call Liz Ruiz at 714.759.8088.
