Chargers pitcher Taylor Pierce’s two-hitter shut down the Dons Wednesday versus Cypress College, 4-1.

“I noticed my rise was working. I decided to keep going with my higher pitches,” Pierce said.

She gave up her only run in the seventh inning as Santa Ana College first baseman Christina McCullough doubled to right field scoring left fielder Tori Furguson.

Pierce also had three RBIs in the game.

“I went for the openings — opposite way so that we could score,” Pierce said.

Dons starting pitcher Victoria Franks gave up two unearned runs in the first two innings of her second consecutive start.

“It made me mad. It made me want to hold them the rest of the game,” Franks said.

She went on to complete the game.

The defeat gives the Dons its first Orange Empire Conference loss as they move to 1-1 in the OEC and 4-8 as a whole.

The Dons next play at home against Golden West College on Feb. 25 at 3 p.m.
