Perkins’ Five RBIs crushes OCC

SOFTBALL: SAC vs. OCC.
GAME DATE: March-20-2013.

Centerfielder Alexandra Perkins scorched two doubles and drove in five runs in the fourth inning Wednesday, as the Dons trounced visiting Orange Coast College, 11-3.

“We are continuing to attack as a team and trusting one another,” Perkins said.

Santa Ana College scored nine runs on six hits and one error in the bottom of the fourth. Perkins knocked in sophomore designated hitter Genna Main and freshman second baseman Kelsey Choate for the first two runs with a double up the middle. After the Dons added three more runs, Perkins stepped to the plate with the bases loaded. Her second double scored Main, Choate and left fielder Eryn Martinez.

“We expected to execute and play hard,” Co-Head Coach Jessica Rapoza said.

Devon Rodriquez (8-1) pitched four innings while allowing one run on five hits while striking out three. Becky Poirier pitched one inning, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out one.

“I was getting ahead in the count, making them hit the ball and letting my defense work,” starting pitcher Rodriguez said.

OCC starting pitcher Crystal Ornelas (2-6) went four innings while giving up 11 runs, six earned, on two walks and one strike out.

The Pirates (2-17 overall, 0-10 OEC), are still without a conference win. SAC takes the season series from Coast.

The Dons (15-7 overall 5-5 in OEC), next game is Friday at Cypress College starting at 2 p.m.
