New fees implemented at some Cal State schools are increasing semester costs by several hundred dollars.

Despite student protests, 11 CSUs will charge a Student Success Fee that goes towards overall campus funding, including improving Internet services and hiring more staff.

The exact fee amount varies depending on the campus, ranging from $60 at CSU Fullerton to $630 at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Opponents say the fee is a way to get around tuition freezes that were announced in 2012.
