Dorian ZavalaThe Santa Ana College football team has had a rough start to the season. After six games, their record stands at two wins and six losses. The Dons’ two wins come against Antelope Valley College and LA Southwest. They currently stand in third place in the Metro League (Southern California Football Association) standings. There are bright spots to the Dons’ record. Cross Faletoi is ranked third by the SCFA for averaging 120 yards per game. He is also ranked fifth with six touchdown passes.
The Dons’ other quarterback, Luke Wilson, currently ranks second in the Metro League for the 11 touchdown passes he’s thrown in just three games this season. Dons wide receiver Joshua Rice is ranked second in yards per game with 94.5 and stands in first place in touchdown receptions with eight. The Santa Ana defensive unit isn’t far behind the rankings of their offensive stars.
Linebacker Kenny Phillips has 41 tackles and two sacks in six games. Defensive lineman Giovanni Kizer has six sacks for the Dons and is ranked first in the Metro league.
“There’s a lot of talent on this team; we’ve had some setbacks, mistakes on the field, but our goal is to clean it up and get better,” said offensive lineman Joseph Medina.
With games against Chaffey Community College, the Homecoming game against Compton Community College, and one against Glendale College, the schedule is only getting tougher for the Dons. The Dons understand that it’s going to take the team’s best efforts to turn the season around.
