Freshman midfielder Kacee Thoren scored the winning goal in the final minutes of the Dons season opening match, beating Pasadena City College 2-1 Tuesday at home.
Freshman defender Leanna Yescas assisted Thoren with a pass that landed in the Lancers’ box.
“We’ve been working the last two weeks on playing it through the middle,”Dons Head Coach Jaymie Baquero said.
Sophomore midfielder Makenna Roa scored the Dons first goal of the season. Roa netted a rebound pass from Lancers’ goalie Monica Rogers, following a missed shot by freshman forward Brianna George.
“Someone crossed it and then our forward hit the post and I just rebounded it,”Roa said.
Midfielder Leila Farazdaghi scored the lone goal for PCC, squeaking it by Dons goalkeeper Cristina Lizarraga during stoppage time in the first half.
“We were trying to get her as many touches as possible,”PCC Head Coach Reggie Rivas said.
Dons next home game is Friday Sept. 4, at 2 p.m.
