Christmas season seems to come earlier each year, coinciding with the start of the shopping season.
K-Mart launched its first Christmas shopping ad Sept. 12 through YouTube. This was well before other major retail stores like Target, Best Buy and Wal-Mart began publishing promos for the upcoming Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.
Even then, those same stores shortly began promoting the hottest toys, electronics and other must-have items in anticipation of the holiday retail rush.
Buying the new iPhone 6 with a two-year contract from AT&T for $199 would have been a sweet deal, if the large print didn’t say “pre-Black Friday Christmas sale,” in October as I waited for my financial aid to arrive.
Let’s not forget that there are other holidays we observe that happen before Christmas like Halloween, Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving.
Christmas may be one of the most popular holidays of the year for consumers, but that may change if retail stores continue pushing the shopping season on us earlier and earlier. People will grow tired of being bombarded with Christmas ads in the middle of August while trying to take care of back-to-school shopping.
