Starting pitcher Tori Franks tossed her third shutout Wednesday as the Dons stomped out the Golden West Rustlers, 9-0.

“It’s a hitting game and we’re going to have to hit,” said Golden West Head Coach Suzy Brazney.

The Dons brought on the offense in an early-season conference matchup, with first baseman Christina McCullough clubbing a two-run home run in the first inning.

“We had more fun today–before the game we played a tennis ball game which got everyone in a fun mood,” McCullough said.

SAC wouldn’t look back, tacking seven more runs over the course of the game.

The “tennis ball game” started during practice Monday, when the team began using tennis balls in infield drills.  The players would throw balls between themselves, adding more balls as the game went on.

Franks credited the impromptu team-building exercise for snapping the Dons out of a mild funk that began with a 0-2 homestand last week.

“We’re going to keep going with that for sure,” Franks said.

The Dons next play vs. Desert College Friday at home at 2:00 p.m.
