Dons Start Conference Play with a Loss

By: Jaime Buenaventura

The Dons opened the Orange Empire Conference with an 18-7 loss Wednesday against the visiting Golden West Rustlers.

Santa Ana College scored five goals to Golden West’s two in the first quarter, but lost their momentum in the second when they were nearly scoreless and went 4-1.

The Rustlers capitalized on the Don’s turnovers, said SAC Head Men’s Water polo Coach Al Reyes.

In the third quarter, the Rustlers scored 13 points.

Freshman Attacker Michael Nyberg tried to keep the Dons afloat, scoring three goals in the second and third quarters.

“Trying to get on the cage created more confidence,” Nyberg said.
