Dons’ sting Hornets

WOMEN SOCCER:
Santa Ana College Vs. Fullerton College.

GAME DATE:
October 31, 2012.

Forward Xochitl Sandoval and midfielder Karina Quintero scored a pair of goals to help the Dons cruise past Fullerton College 6-2 at home on Tuesday Oct. 31.

“We were putting pressure on the defense, connecting passes, and communicating on the field, which is stuff we’ve worked on all season,” Co-Head Coach Jessica Rapoza said.

The Dons capitalized on the first opportunity they had in the third minute when Claudia Quintero put the ball in the back of the net on an assist from forward Kristina Alatorre.

The Dons went up 2-0 in the 10th minute when Sandoval dribbled through the Hornets defense and beat the keeper for her first goal of the afternoon.

“One of my goals has always been to take on an entire defense and score. Finally I accomplished that,” Sandoval said.

By the end of the first half the Dons were up 3-0 after Alatorre scored in the 21st minute.

Down by three goals, Fullerton came out with more intensity in the second half, and it paid off in the 53rd minute when Kerry Doyle did a quick touch to cut the Dons lead 3-1.

In the 60th minute, Sandoval scored her second goal of the game and seventh of the season. Fullerton kept responding and put a goal on the scoreboard in the 76th minute when Madisen Winder pushed a loose ball in after a shot from Jazmin Diaz.

“Fullerton came out firing in the second half, but we just kept telling the players to respond back and not loose concentration,” Rapoza said.
