SAC faculty and staff awarded

Distinguished faculty member Gina Giroux has been teaching in the nursing program for more than 30 years.

Nursing Professor Gina Giroux was recognized Tuesday as the 2013 Distinguished Faculty Member at Santa Ana College.

Giroux has been teaching at SAC for more than 30 years, blending the science of nursing with what she calls the “art of nursing.”

“I get to live my passion everyday, and I get to share it with my students everyday,” said a teary-eyed Giroux, adding that her job allows her to combine her two greatest passions — teaching and nursing.

Former students say Giroux is an inspirational instructor.

“She puts all of us at ease and inspires us to be not just good nurses, but great nurses,” said Alyssa Miller, who studied under Giroux 22 years ago and now has a daughter who is being taught by her former instructor.

Other faculty members recognized include Employees of the Year Jennifer Valencia and Geni Lusk; Bill Brush Award winner Toni-Marie Withey; and Adjunct Faculty Award winners Lynn Stewart and John Tashima.
