While most wake up with thousands of positive thoughts and ideas in their head, others are not so lucky.
About 19 million Americans struggle with thoughts of sadness and loneliness, often tempted to self-harm, or at worst, commit suicide.
Depression is a condition of general emotional dejection and withdrawal, caused by chemical imbalances that take over thoughts.
Those with depression are often treated cautiously in hopes that they will not be at risk of hurting themselves or others. It is also true that depressed people tend to push others away because no one wants to be treated differently.
People who don’t suffer from depression must understand that it is a conquerable illness.
Simple solutions are to not judge, assume and overwhelm depressed people. Worrying is normal, and involvement is crucial when there are signs of suicide.
Those who feel wrapped in melancholy want to learn to carry on as normal and happy as possible. Their condition can consume thoughts and make one feel alone. Try to make a person’s day a little easier by just treating others as you would like to be treated. And pass on a real smile every once in a while.
