Shalae Edwards’ low post dominance led Saddleback College to a 69-57 win over visiting Santa Ana College Friday night.

Edwards scored 19 points, with nine off the free throw line.

“I was trying to score every chance I had,” Edwards said. “And keeping up contact to get fouled.”

Point guard Raven Gammage dropped 21 points of her own shooting 5-12 from behind the three point arc.

Throughout the second half, the Dons could have mounted a comeback. But shooting 36.4 percent from the field, combined with 31 turnovers, ended that.

“Our girls had great drive through Gauchos’ bigger players and were very tentative throughout the game,” Coach Flo Luppani said.

Sophomore point guard Janelle Flores led the Dons with 24 points.

“My teammates need to step up and play as a team,” said sophomore forward Anna Nguyen, who assisted her teammates throughout the game.

Saddleback’s dominated the offensive glass and stretched its lead making free throws. The Gauchos shot 75-percent from the line.

The Dons (5-16 overall, 0-7 OEC) will travel to Irvine Wednesday, to play Irvine Valley College.
