Dons recover against Mounties
Santa Ana Dons baseball bounced back from its Tuesday loss to visiting Mount San Antonio College Mounties, winning 8-0 Thursday at Don Sneddon Field.
Dons first baseman Nick Lopez drove in the first runs of the game when he singled to left field, bringing in third baseman James Williams and right fielder Griffin Selby, putting the Dons up 2-0 in the first inning.
In the bottom of the second, left fielder Marcus Johnson tripled to Sebastian McSherry from first base. Later, center fielder Micah Pietila-Wiggs singled to left field, bringing in Johnson from third.
“Before the game, Coach Niles told us that they were going to pitch us the same way as Tuesday, and they did, so we stayed to our approach and got the job today,” Pietila-Wiggs said.
Mt. SAC used a combination of six pitchers in eight innings, while Dons starting pitcher Knolton Clark picked up his second victory of the season, going six innings.
Sophomore outfielder Johnson was the outstanding player of the game, who had three hits and an RBI. The Tustin High grad is now batting .267 on the season for the Dons.
The Dons improved to (7-3, 6-0) on the season.
Santa Ana plays a doubleheader tomorrow at Mazmanian Field, home of the Mounties’, with the first game starting at 2 p.m.
