The Dons volleyball team won its first conference set in almost a year Thursday but lost the match to the visiting Saddleback College Gauchos, 3-1.

Santa Ana College won the first set 30-28 in a back-and-forth battle. Sophomore Michelle Nguyen killed one for a 29-28 SAC lead that was followed by a Saddleback error, giving the Dons the set.

Then the Gauchos (5-6, 1-3) rolled off three consecutive sets wins.

The loss kept the Dons (3-9, 0-4) winless in four conference matches.
