Student Shot Dead on Main

A Santa Ana College student was shot and killed Aug. 14 in what police say might have been a planned drug deal.

Aaron Jonathan Chavez was died adter being struck multiple times in the passenger side of a parked car at Main and 12th streets at about 11:30 p.m.

Two female passengers.,The driver, 21, and backseat passenger, 26, were struck multiple times and are in critical condition.

Officers arrested Dustin Sean Ross McDonald the next day near his Garden Grove home on suspicion of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

“Music was his [Chavez’s] dream. Ever since I met him 10 years ago, he loved to write songs and make beats,” Chavez’s Kim Van said on Facebook.

Chavez last enrolled at SAC in fall 2013, according to admissions records.
