Dons capitalize on Falcon errors

Freshman designated hitter JB Bryant smashed a two-run single in the second inning Thursday, sparking a four-run rally in the Dons’ 9-1 win over visiting Cerritos.

“I had a pretty bad at bat the time before, so I wanted a pitch I could drive,” said Bryant. “I got a fastball right down the middle, probably belt high. It was a perfect pitch and I just put a good swing on it.”

The Dons extended its winning streak Friday, to seven games. The team traveled to Wilmington, defeating Los Angeles Harbor College 13-7, as sophomore righty Garrett Wilson improved to 2-0 on the mound.

Sophomore southpaw Bryan Clough battled first inning control issues, Thursday, where he walked two, while allowing Cerritos’ only run of the ball game.

“The first inning was a little rough for me,” Clough said. “I just wanted to figure it out.”

Clough made the adjustments.

“It came down to simple things like throwing strikes in effective spots and not trying to do too much with it,” Clough said.

In the next three innings he saw the minimum number of Falcons, and scattered three hits over seven innings before the Dons’ called on freshman right-hander Christian Uchytil to finish the game.

“The wind was blowing real hard and it was blowing him to the plate. It was making him rush and he messed up as a result of that,” said Head Coach Don Sneddon. “He came back and made adjustments. That is what you like to see.”

Six Falcon errors lead to three unearned runs for the Dons.

“Our best offense was there defense,” Sneddon said.

The Dons play next Tuesday as the team travels to Compton College to make up a rained out game from Feb. 7.
