Dons zapped by Lasers

WOMEN’s VOLLEYBALL.
Game date: October 26, 2011.

The Santa Ana College women’s volleyball team lost Oct.26 at home in straight sets to Irvine Valley College in round two of the Orange Empire Conference 25-8, 25-13, 25-13 respectively.

The Dons overall record is 1-12, its O.E.C. record is 0-7, and 0-5 at home. “Mental lapses, dismissed calculations, and mental mistakes are the major obstacles”, said Assistant Coach Pat Connoly. The team exhibits “massive potential” but have yet to unleash it this season.

“Coming together as a unit, trusting each other, and communication” are dynamics that must be incorporated into this teams repertoire to turn the tide in the Dons favor exclaimed, setter Violet Falealili.

Volleyball is a sport that epitomizes volatility. With players scrambling all over the floor looking for digs, making passes and attempts to kill; you must embrace the essence of mental toughness.

“Mental toughness is what got us back into the game but we made way too many mental mistakes in the crunch time” said Connolly after a loss to Saddleback College Oct 19.
“We had to pull together, glad to get the win, glad this team is really coming together and mental toughness played a big role in this win”, said Libero Michell Lisowski of the Gauchos.

“ I would shake it off for the next time, it’s a very mental sport” said Falealili in regards to the loss.
