Leo finally won an oscar.

During the 88th Academy Awards Sunday, Leonardo DiCaprio won best actor in a leading role for his part in The Revenant. This is his first Academy Award win after six nominations over his 22-year acting career.

In The Revenant, DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, who is abandoned by his fellow trappers after being attacked by a bear. Driven by thoughts of his family, Glass seeks revenge on the men who left him for dead.

The Academy previously nominated DiCaprio five times across several categories, including Actor in a Leading Role for The Wolf of Wall Street.

As the Oscars approached, his supporters stated this would be an obvious win for the actor since he had not won after so many years.

Celebrities like Eddie Redmayne, who was also nominated in the same category, shared their excitement for the actor on social media Sunday following his triumph.

DiCaprio used his win to address climate change during his speech.

“Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species. We need to work together to stop procrastinating,” DiCaprio said after receiving his award.

In total, The Revenant took home three wins, including victories in the best cinematography category and best director for Alejandro González Iñárritu.
