The Dons hired a new head baseball coach last week.

Tom Nilles is replacing Bryan Harris, who coached the Dons the past two seasons following the departure of long-time skipper Don Sneddon.

“There’s no doubt that I have big shoes to fill,” Nilles said. “This is what is expected of this baseball program, and it’s what I expect out of myself. I think that my desires and goals are directly in line with the history that’sbeen here.”

Niles spent the last five seasons at Fullerton College as the team’s assistant head coach, focusing on the Hornets offense while coaching the catchers and heading up their strength and conditioning.

Prior to his time at Fullerton, Niles coached at Sierra College, where he helped lead the team to a 2008 state championship.

Under Harris, the Dons compiled a 42-34-1 overall record. But the team played six games under .500 in the Orange Empire Conference, including a dismal 4-17 OEC record in 2015.
