Riding the bus around Orange County all day just got cheaper. Starting Oct. 9, the Orange County Transportation Authority will decrease the price of a day pass for the first time.

The price for unlimited ridership on OCTA buses for a full 24 hours will be reduced from $5 to $4 for six months.

“The hope is to attract and increase ridership by 600,000,” said OCTA Media Relations Specialist Eric Carpenter. “One problem that riders had was that they couldn’t afford the bus passes, so we tried to make them more affordable.”

Regular fares are still $2 for local routes, $6 for express routes 701, 721 and 794 and $4 for OC Express 757 and 758. The Bravo routes 543 and 560 fares are $2 per boarding or, with the new discount, $5 per day.

“This is the first time we have lowered the price of a bus pass and we’ll have to see how this works out,” said Carpenter.
