The Campus Safety and Security department exchanged old bike locks for new ones at their booth by the fountain as a part of club rush.

They offered students the opportunity to exchange their locks for 300 Masterlock U-bar locks, which are recommended above other locks because of their durability and resistance to cutting.

“We recognize that there is a problem and we’re trying to address it,” Chief of District Safety and Security Alistair Winter said.

The school has had trouble with bike security and the main reason is weak bike locks that can be easily broken, Winter said.

Students also have the option to register their bicycles with school security at the booth. This information can help security officials locate and recover stolen bikes.
