Baseball game date: March 3, 2012.

Sophomore first baseman Konnor Armijo smashed an RBI double down the left field line in the second inning Saturday, as the Dons stung the visiting Fullerton College Hornets 12-3.

“If there is a hanging curveball first pitch, I’ll take it,” Armijo said. “I got a hanging slider first pitch and second pitch he threw the same exact thing. I just turned on it.”

The Dons scored five runs in the first two innings.

Starting pitcher sophomore Bryan Clough struggled through three plus innings but limited the damage to two runs on six hits.

“I didn’t have my best stuff and they were hitting the ball around,” Clough said. “I wasn’t throwing the off speed for strikes and I didn’t have the fastball command.”

In the top half of the fourth, the Hornets loaded the bases on three consecutive singles. Head Coach Don Sneddon called freshman Christian Uchytil out of the bullpen.

Uchytil sat the next three batters down on two groundballs and a strikeout.

“They have a lot of confidence in me,” Uchytil said. “The fastball and slider worked well, seemed to have them off balance.”

Uchytil picked up his first win throwing four innings, allowing two hits and striking out five.

The Dons continued OEC play Tuesday, in a 11-8 loss to Orange Coast College.
